Occupational Therapy
(Christie Simms our Occupational Therapist with some of our wonderful Therapy staff)
Living and functioning productively can be extremely difficult when complicated by a disability, illness, disease or trauma. Occupational therapy teaches techniques that optimize a resident's current ability to function at their highest level of self-care independence.
The licensed occupational therapists at Mesa Verde will develop a program that focuses on self care training, upper body strengthening, coordination of functional skills, perceptual training, and energy conservation techniques.
Treatment is directed towards reducing any impairment that limits independent function such as loss of strength or extremity use, decreased motor coordination or range of motion, or diminished ability to problem solve. Instruction in the use of adaptive equipment and techniques to compensate for functional loss is just one facet of occupational therapy that includes a wide variety of skills and technique training.
